Finike
Finike is a famous tourist destination in the province of Antalya, featuring a perfect blend of history, nature, and sea. The district is noted for the ruins of the ancient cities of Limyra and Arykanda. It is also famous for its oranges.
It was founded in the 5th century BC under the name Phoinikos at the entrance of the Aykırı Stream (Arykandos). The name "Finike" likely comes from the Phoenicians, who used the region as a trading center. Limyra, the capital of the region, was known as a port for the export of its agricultural products.
Where to go in Finike?
You can start your journey with a trip to the ruins located in the village of Arif, situated in the middle of the Elmalı-Finike highway. There are no archaeological or written sources about the first settlement time. It is known as an ancient settlement site, as the name "Arykanda" is considered a local name in terms of philology.
You can rent a car in Finike or book your private car at your driver in Finike and start the journey.
At one of the highest terraces of Arykanda, there is a stadium whose track takes the shape of a trapezoid after a certain part. You can get there by car, private transfer, shuttle transfer, or taxi.
The seats of the stadium are on one side. Connected by a staircase near the middle of the stadium, it links to the lower terrace, where a small but well-preserved theater is located. On the lower terrace, there is the Odeon, which is accessible by a staircase from the theater. The portico in front of the Odeon surrounds the Agora in the shape of an angular U. The necropolis occupies much more area than the official and private buildings.
Finike is well-connected to other major cities along the coast by local buses, less than an hour from the tomato-producing city of Demre and the popular resort town of Kaş.
